The Duckworth Diary - July 12, 2013

The Duckworth Diary is a weekly note from Congresswoman Duckworth that updates constituents on her work in Congress. It will include recent meetings, important votes, and other information designed to make our office more transparent and accessible to the people of the 8th district. Check back each Friday for the latest news!

Dear Neighbors,

This week, I met with the Chilean Delegation of the Sister Cities Elgin & Caquenes. It was great to see so many people from the Chilean community at Paul's Restaurant for breakfast. We talked about their trip to Illinois and what they have been doing throughout the District.

In Elk Grove Village, I toured Dexter Magnetic Technologies. They are a local business that just moved to Illinois from New York, and brought 25 new jobs with them! They work on magnetic technology to help further the life sciences, semiconductor, aerospace and defense industries. It was great to see their innovative work first hand.

While in Washington, I met with the President of the Illinois Farm Bureau to discuss a path forward on creating a sensible farm bill. It was great to have visitors from Illinois in DC.

I also spoke with the American Energy and Wind Association on Capitol Hill. I am inspired by AEWA’s dedication to creating high paying jobs right here in America. Wind energy creates jobs in manufacturing and jobs that make America a leader in innovation. I am also proud they are developing energy sources that are clean and affordable for all Americans. Wind energy is a reliable source of energy that can leave a cleaner planet for our children and grandchildren. Two great companies creating wind energy and manufacturing jobs here in the 8th District are Bley, LLC in Elk Grove Village and Winergy Drive Systems in Elgin – both of which I have visited this year.

Lastly, I helped introduce legislation to congratulate the Black Hawks on their Stanley Cup win, the 1963 men's basketball team of Loyola University Chicago on its induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame and the 50th anniversary of the team's Division I National Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball championship. Congrats to both of these Chicagoland teams!

I hope you have been enjoying your week.

Best,

Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth
