Five Ways to Stay Cool in Arlington Heights This Week

From ice cream to swimming to a trip to Arlington Heights' newest movie theater, there are plenty of ways to beat the heat.

The summer heat is on.

For those who are dying to get out of the house while still beating the heat, there are many ways to stay cool this week. Here are a couple ideas:

  • A trip to the pool: As temperatures soar, a local outdoor pool is a great way to cool off while still getting some fresh air. The village of Arlington Heights has five outdoor pools that are open daily. The park district website has more information on hours of operation.
  • A trip to the movies: Star Cinema Grill recently opened in Arlington Heights at 53 S. Evergreen St. The theater not only offer various showings, but also a bar in the lobby, updated seats in the theater and a table to allow visitors to dine in while watching the movie, according to the Daily Herald. To view showings, visit the Star Cinema Grill website
  • A cool treat: Hershey's Ice Cream, formerly Ashby's Sterling Ice Cream, is located downtown at 5 E. Campbell Street. The business describes hand-dipped ice cream as its niche. The ice cream is made with fresh ingredients. Check out Berry-Yo at 50 Vail Ave. for your fro-yo fix. Tropical Smoothie Cafe, at 315 E. Rand Road, offers a healthy, but cool option, for a summer treat. Looking for a fabulous margarita? Check out Salsa 17 or Mago Grill & Cantina
  • A trip to the bowling alley: Arlington Lanes, at 3435 Kennicott Ave., offers open bowling as well as cosmic bowling.
  • Shop: Get out of the house and head over to Woodfield Mall for some air-conditioning and some shopping. The massive mall will also give you the opportunity to get in some walking and exercise.
Ready.gov also offers suggestions on how to stay safe during extremely hot temperatures. Tips include wearing light-colored, loosely fitting clothing, drinking enough water and avoid being outside during peak hot hours between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Click here for more information and safety tips.
