Arlington Heights Tire Thief Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison

Terry Haygood pleaded guilty to the theft of tires from Arlington Heights Nissan, according to the Daily Herald.

A 40-year-old Chicago man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years in prison Monday for stealing nearly 60 tires from an Arlington Heights dealership between Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, 2012, according to the Daily Herald.

Terry Haygood received 137 days of credit for his time at the Cook County Jail since his arrest, according to the article.

Located at 1100 W. Dundee Road, the Arlington Heights Nissan estimated a loss of nearly $60,000 from the stolen tires. Targeting NV vans, Frontier trucks and Armada and X-Terra SUVs, fasteners were cut to release the tires from underneath the vehicles.

Following a three-month investigation, Arlington Heights police arrested Haygood and Abel Villareal-Garcia, 40, on Jan. 28. Police used surveillance techniques to track down the tires, which had been stockpiled at 5206 S. Winchester Avenue Chicago.

Charges are pending against Villareal-Garcia, 40, according to the Daily Herald.
