Local Grade School Student Wins Blackhawks' Shoot the Puck

Seven-year-old Nate Schaefer of Palatine was named winner of the "Shoot the Puck" contest at a recent Chicago Blackhawks' game. 

Schaefer's mother Susan said while the family was at the April 21st game against the St. Louis Blues at the United Center, they were approached by a Blackhawks’ representative who asked if Nate would like to participate in the contest.

Nate, who has played ice hockey since the age of four and currently is a member of the Northwest Chargers, was more than willing to compete. 

Two shots are allowed for each competitor, and the Sanborn Elementary School 2nd grader made both of them, which entitled him to cash prizes totaling up to $600.  

“For as long as I can remember Nate has had a passion for all sports….at the young age of 3, he would check who won the Hawks game from the night before by pulling out the newspaper,” Schaefer said. “Nate hopes to someday play for the Chicago Blackhawks! As his mom, I have no doubt in my mind that he will succeed  in his dream!”
