Area Girls Track Athletes Qualify for State

Prospect High School stole the show at the Elmhurst sectional, placing first overall.

Several local girls track and field athletes will be headed to the state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston this Thursday through Saturday. 

The Prospect High School girl's track team placed first overall at the Elmhurst (York) 3A track and field sectional meet on May 10 with 99 points. Wheaton Warrenville South High School came in second with 82 points and Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn finished in third place with 71 points, according to preliminary results posted on the IHSA website.  

Prospect High School also brought home sectional titles in the 4x800-meter relay, finishing with a time of 9:41.84; and in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.26, according to the IHSA website.

Morgan Keller, a senior at Rolling Meadows High School, finished in first place in the shot put and in the discuss throw. Erica Hill, a senior at Hersey High School, placed first in the long jump with a jump of 16-10.5.

Hersey High School, Buffalo Grove High School

The following Hersey High School and Buffalo Grove High School girls track athletes qualified for the state meet in the Palatine High School 3A track and field sectional meet on May 10: 

  • Erica Hill, senior, Hersey, first place in the long jump
  • Kelly Hills, sophomore, Hersey, fourth place in the pole vault
  • Kaitlyn Ko, freshman, Buffalo Grove, seventh place in the 3200-meter run

Prospect High School, Rolling Meadows High School

The following Prospect and Rolling Meadows high school track athletes qualified for the state meet at the Elmhurst (York) 3A track and field sectional meet on May 10: 

  • The Prospect High School girl's track team placed first overall at the sectional meet, ahead of Wheaton Warrenville South High School, which came in second; and Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, which came in third place at the meet. 
  • Catherine Sherwood, sophomore, Prospect, second place in the long jump
  • Morgan Keller, senior, Rolling Meadows, first place in the shot put; first place in the discuss throw
  • Erin Reese, junior, Prospect, second place in the shot put; second place in the discuss throw
  • Prospect 4-by-800-meter relay team, first place
  • Prospect 4-by-100-meter relay team, first place
  • Lauren Poplawski, senior, Prospect, 800-meter run, second place
  • Christina Santiago, junior, Prospect, 1600-meter run, second place
  • Brooke Wolfe, senior, Prospect 1600-meter run, ninth place

St. Viator High School

The following St. Viator High School girls track athletes qualified for the state meet at the Grayslake 2A Central sectional on May 9

  • Hanna Winter, senior, second place in the 800-meter run; third place in the 1600-meter run
  • Meghan Carroll, junior, fourth place in the 1600-meter run
