Janet,
Did yo feel the same way when Bush won his first term? Won the electoral college and lost the popular vote to Al Gore. This country has been 50/50 for over a decade. I am a Republican and I disagree with the path that my party is on. The Far right has gone too far and the party needs a new direction. The negitive campainging was on both sides of the asile and is very discourging.

Softball, yes I did feel the same way when Bush won his first term. My point was that this was not a "clear victory". I also noted that the viscious and hateful campaigning is on both sides, and I think it is despicable. I would like to see campaigning where a candidate tells me what qualifications he or she has and what makes them the best person for the office and never hear them mention their opponent once.

Let the layoffs begin.
Business owners are now laying off employees because of the Obama victory and what it means to their business. A Las Vegas owner laid off roughly 20% of his staff yesterday. Many Democrat voters just don't understand the implications of Obamacare on small business and the threat of higher tax rates and continued astronomical corporate tax rates. It's math, pure and simple.
Janet, So true! This past election has been 90% 'attack ads' with no substance as to what the person thinks, feels, stands for. I believe the English have the correct way of doing things. Electioneering can begin only x weeks before an election and you're allowed to spend only Y amount of money. To many of those now elected will get sworn in and then start running for re-election within a matter of weeks.
Dan, True ... the economy remains in the toilet ... markets drop big time the very nextday ... housing still in the dumps ... unemployment figures still high and they don't even reflect the number of people that have just given up looking or no longer can claim unemployment compensation. Of course things 'look brighter', when you're at the bottom of the well the only place to go is up ... unless more government comes along and digs the well deeper!
Tom Danziger November 8, 2012 at 02:37 pm
I heard somewhere that 97% of small businesses make under $250k and would not be affected by tax hikes. Is that true? I'm a learner, and I would like to wade through the partisan comments to really understand how public policy works.

To just sayin,
Whomever you are the name calling doesn't offend me as much as your existence. You show by your remarks your IQ is probably less than the 100 some say they think is avg. You are no doubt typical of the liberals, but I wouldn't categorize you because any category I try to put you into would only insult the rest of those in that group. But it would be suffice to say you are a JACKASS

cares what you think of me. Clearly I don 't.

Obviously civility is still lacking even though the election is over. Name calling is always counterproductive. The election is over, & whether your candidate won or lost, compromises are going to have to be made on both sides of the political spectrum. The members of the House & Senate are going to have to learn to work together to get us out of the hole we are in, & the President is going to have to step up & lead because that is what a President does.
What has been happening & is still happening in Washington is like a divorce. Each side blames the other for the problems, & neither is willing to accept any blame for their part of the problems. No matter what political party we belong to, we need to hold our elected officials feet to the fire. There is a lack of civility in Washington & in Springfield, & both parties are equally to blame. If compromise cannot be reached, we are in for some very hard times. Our children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren will pay for the mistakes our government makes. It is definitely unfair to place that burden on them. BTW. My candidate lost!
Gary November 8, 2012 at 10:35 pm
Please explain what compromise Republicans can make that will save our children and grand-children from crushing debt.

If you can't prove your worth to an employer over an illegal immigrant, perhaps it is time to take a hard look at your qualifications and why you have such low worth?
Mr Tibbs November 9, 2012 at 01:12 am
Not a good assumption, Gramps. I voted for him and i'm not on public assistance. I know of some redneck folks who haven't had a job in years voting for Romney, too
Mr Tibbs November 9, 2012 at 01:18 am
I think I'm starting to agree with 'just sayin'.
Mr Tibbs November 9, 2012 at 01:22 am
Deerfield, perhaps you can help me with #3? Do you have a way to separate the truly needy from the moochers? Im pretty sure you do and would love to hear it so i can be sure we are helping the 'right kind of people'
Deerfield Resident November 9, 2012 at 01:26 am
Dan. Could be a girl with a gun....very true....I'll watch for her in less desireable locations...thanks. Gary Good question bush left us w debt and Obama doubled it.... You have to do what Romney said....if a program requires we have to borrow from china- its dropped. Have to say no and make tough decisions ....require china to reduce any interest and start paying back. ...even better charge these countries for our protection and sharing of technology and well be in the black within a short period. The liberals are unwilling to cut anything ....cut the union ties and no one gets govt help without passing a drug test....that will stop the funds to "just sayin" and HER types
Mr Tibbs November 9, 2012 at 01:31 am
Now boys... Play nicely.
(But just an FYI to wbpprint, IQ of 100 is by definition, average. The median of the bell curve is set at 100. I wont insult your intelligence, but you can easily google it if you wish)
Mr Tibbs November 9, 2012 at 01:32 am
Thank you DeAnn. It would be nice if we could all work together a little more.

Amen! And to think The Orchard Evangelical Free Church wants to raze 8 neighborhood homes to buildRead More a parking lot? Another loss of revenue for the village if these 8 homes get demolished.
Cati Jones June 16, 2013 at 05:29 pm
yes, despite the fact that property values have taken a hit in this economy, there has been NORead More change in the AH property taxes> Question: what are our political representatives doing about this?
Sarah June 18, 2013 at 10:58 pm
no new police $$$$tation is needed stop the wastful spanding
Burt June 11, 2013 at 10:45 pm
The residents of Arlington Heights are aging and have no money we cannot raise any more taxes. IfRead More anything cut the size of the force
Bob Ruffatto June 13, 2013 at 08:26 am
I think that the police department does need a building. New national standards require separateRead More ventilation systems for prisoners to reduce unhealthy exposure. Also, new standards require "hardened" facilities to assure uninterrupted protection during emergencies. In addition, there are many more issues that after review seem reasonable. However, we don't need a new 71,000 square foot building which would rival in size, our current village hall - a building many call a Taj Mahal. The current process started on the wrong foot and wasted money. Three qualified consultants submitted bids and yet the contract was awarded to high-bidder. This has already wasted thousands of taxpayer dollars. Hopefully the new Board and Mayor will rein in the excessive spending and design. We have reason for hope. There is now a qualified and fiscally conservative architect on the Board. At the same time, it would nice to see if the Police could share some of the largely unused village hall. Doing so, would be a win-win for taxpayers.
Sarah June 15, 2013 at 09:45 pm
ask the Police who work there , what is more important their pensions being funded , or someRead More """ air quality bs "" I would give a shower with a garden hose to any law braker anytime , some deodorant , hell I would even wash their cloth , meanwhile giving them nice pink pants and t-shirt the current police station is sufficient , but there must be a interest in building one and it is not a residents interest I am talking about - figure it out ( $$$$$$$)
