Senior Service Award Nominations Due

Nominees for the Kenneth Hood Senior Service award should show a history of service to the senior community and must reside, work or volunteer in Arlington Heights. Nominations are due June 1.

The Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission is accepting nominations for the annual Kenneth Hood Senior Service award.

The commission will accept nominations through June 1. Nominees should exhibit a history of service to the senior citizen community and must reside, work or voluteer in Arlington Heights.

The nomination form for the award is available online or can be mailed or faxed upon request.

The Kenneth Hood Service Award was created in 2008 when Kenneth Hood challenged those attending his 100th birthday celebration to pick up his “torch of service to Arlington Heights’ senior citizens," according to the Arlington Heights village press release. 

The winner of the award will be announced July 31, which also is the anniversary of Kenneth Hood's birthday. Hood died in 2007 at 100 years old. He was a doctor and an advocate for senior issues.

The senior citizens commission is a group of 10 people who are appointed to three-year terms to work with the village to promote senior citizen-related causes.

Prior recipients of the Kenneth Hood Award include:

  • Jack Schimpf, honored posthumously
  • Shirley Garrison, 2009
  • Frank De Rosa, 2010
  • Joe Cesario, 2011.
