Burglary: Donation Jar and Presents Stolen in Arlington Heights

35 packages stolen along with the St. Jude Children's Hospital donation jar from an Arlington Heights apartment complex while the offices were closed for Thanksgiving.

A donation jar and a few dozen presents were stolen from an Arlington Heights apartment complex while the offices were closed for Thanksgiving Day, police said. 

Through the fireplace, the offender or offenders snuck into the main office of Tranglewood Apartments to steal The St. Jude Children's Research Hospital donation jar and ransack the delivery room, full of packages and presents that had been delivered to people who live in the complex.

Stored for resident pickup, 35 packages were taken from the Tranglewood Apartment office, located at 2134 S. Goebbert Road. An additional 17 packages were opened but left inside the storage room, police said.

Locked up and closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday, the office was burglarized sometime between 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 and 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23.

According to the Arlington Heights Police Department, it looked like the offender or offenders entered a common gym room and crawled through a two-sided fireplace to get into the main office. There is no loss estimate at this time.
