Blotter: Money, Jewelry, Laptop Stolen

Arlington Heights Police Department reports from Aug. 13-14.

A burglar appeared to have stolen money and a few thousand dollars worth of jewelry from a residence on the 1900 block of N. Brighton Place between 11:51 a.m. and 11:54 a.m. on Aug. 14.

The burglar appeared to have shattered the rear patio door while attempting to pry it open. The offenders entered the residence, went to the master bedroom, removed a pillowcase from the bed and filled it with an unknown amount of cash and jewelry. Based on upon the various alarm sensors, the burglar was only in the home for three minutes. 

Prior to leaving the home the resident had someone at her door that rang the doorbell and knocked several times. The resident looked out of the window but did not answer the door because she did not recognize the subject.

The suspect is described as male, early 20s, 5 feet, 6 inches, medium build with brown hair and wearing a red polo shirt with yellow emblem, according to police reports.

Arlington Heights Police Department Burglary Prevention Tips

  • Address numbers should be clearly visible from the street – helps improve police and fire response times
  • Exterior lighting:  Automatic sensor lighting in front and sensor or motion detection lighting in back.
  • Use solid core exterior doors with double key deadbolt locks (Min. 1” throw/3” screws).
  • If a window is close to the door - keep the key a safe distance away.
  • Install a door viewer if the door is solid.
  • Sliding glass doors should have a burglar bar in the track.
  • Landscaping – bushes should be 3’or lower and trees should be trimmed 6’ up.  This will increase natural surveillance.
  • Make sure alarm system is functioning properly.
  • Consider purchasing a safe for valuables and firearms.  Secure safe to floor or wall.
  • Make a list of your valuables, to include make, model and serial number.
  • Make a video inventory of your property.

 

 

Residential Burglary 

A hammer drill, photo cutter and a plastic bin filled with other power and hand tools, valued at $2,000, were stolen from an apartment storage locker on the 2200 block of S. Goebbert Rd. between July 20 at noon and July 13 at 4 p.m.

 

 Vehicle Burglary

An HP laptop computer, valued at $800, was stolen out of an silver 2005 Pontiac Sunfire on the 500 block of E. Seegers between 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 13.

 

Criminal Damage

A 40-inch Vizio television, valued at $400, was damaged in what appears to be an attempted theft. The failed burglary occurred on the 1100 block of S. New Wilke Rd. inside a condo common workout room. While attempting to remove the television, the wall bracket, valued at $60, was also damaged.
