Arlington Heights Woman Drowns After Saving Boy Distressed in Wisconsin Lake

Karen Wessel, 47, of Arlington Heights died Tuesday after heroically saving a boy who was distressed in a Wisconsin lake, WGN TV reports.

The boy, with two other boys that included Wessel's own son, had gone out in Star Lake, near Wessel's family summer home in Plum Lake, Wisconsin. The three boys became distressed in the water, WGN reported, and Wessel reportedly kept one of them afloat with the weight of her own body, but was lost in the water and pronounced dead later in a Wisconsin hospital.
