Arlington Heights Police Blotter: $100K in Vitamins Stolen, Fragrant Thief

Theft

A victim reported that while shopping at Goodwill, 1551 N. Dryden Ave., her wallet was taken from her shopping cart on Aug. 16 between 12:30 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. The witness reported the incident to police on Aug. 23 6:19 p.m. and told them she left her cart to ask one of the workers there a question, then went back and began pushing what turned out to be someone else’s cart. When she realized her mistake, she found her cart and her wallet ($10) was missing from her purse, in addition to $7 in cash, an Illinois driver’s license, credit card a couple of gift cards.

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

Unknown offender(s) keyed a beige 2013 Cadillac in an apartment parking lot sometime between Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. and Aug. 23 at 6:25 a.m. in the 1600 block of Woods Dr. The scratch began on the hood and went around the entire vehicle. Damage estimates were not immediately available.

Unknown offender(s) broke out the rear hatch window of a silver 2013 Lexus 200 H at the Bob Rohrman Lexus Auto Group, 1500 W. Dundee Rd. sometime on Aug. 26. Security for the property notified police at 2:29 a.m. and damage estimates were not immediately available.

Vehicle Burglary

A semi-trailer truck parked at Lodan Electronics, 3311 N. Kennicott Ave. was stolen, along with a Volvo cab sometime between Aug. 24 at 5:30 p.m. and Aug. 25. At 6:30 a.m. Inside the trailer, 50 pallets of GNC multi-vitamins were stored, with an estimated value of $100,000. There were no signs of forced entry.

Unknown offender(s) broke into a green 2009 Toyota Prius 4-door parked in a residential driveway in the 0-100 block of S. Waterman on Aug. 24 sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. The owner parked the vehicle, and went he went back out to the vehicle found its contents thrown about the car. Approximately $90 in cash was taken from the victim’s wallet. There were not signs of forced entry and the victim was unsure if the vehicle was left unlocked.  

Unknown offender(s) entered two vehicles parked in a residential driveway in the 100 block of N. Waterman sometime between Aug. 23 at 10 p.m. and Aug. 24 at 6:30 a.m. The first car was a gray 2004 Chevy Malibu, and the second a 2012 Honda Odyssey mini-van. Both vehicles were unlocked and the glove boxes were rifled through but nothing was taken.

Unknown offender(s) entered a 2008 Nissan Ultima parked in a residential driveway in the 0-100 block of S. Phelps Ave. on Aug. 24 between 12:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The glove box was rifled through but nothing was taken. A GPS unit on the windshield also was not taken.

Residential Burglary

An older model, dark blue men’s mountain bike ($150) was taken from a residential garage in the 1700 block of W. Grove St. on Aug. 23 between 8:40 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. The resident was on the back patio at the time of the theft, and saw the shadow of a subject entered the garage – but thought it was his neighbor. When he spoke to the person he believed to be his neighbor, the man rode away on the bike travelling northbound on Wilke Rd. The offender is described as a white male, 5”8’ with a medium building, and long dark hair. He was wearing a black sleeveless shirt and shorts.

A Schwinn men’s hybrid bike ($200) and a Raleigh C30 bike with silver and green letters (unknown value) were taken from a residential garage in the 1500 block Plymouth Dr. on Aug. 23 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The overhead garage door was left open.

Motor Vehicle Theft

A semi-truck and trailer were taken from the Lodan Electronics parking lot, 3311 N. Kennicott Ave. sometime between Aug. 24 at 5:30 p.m. and Aug. 25 at 6:20 a.m.. The white 2005 Volvo semi-truck was attached to a 2006 Wabash National trailer, which contained 50 pallets of GNC multi-vitamins valued at $100,000. The owner of the facility said he is the only one that has a key to the vehicle. No signs of forced entry were observed.

Retail Theft

Victoria T. Know, 29, of the 800 block of S. 18th St., Maywood was charged with misdemeanor retail theft for attempting to steal more than a dozen items from Bath and Body Works, 41 S. Evergreen Ave. on Aug. 23 at 12:43 p.m. An employee of the store called police to report that two females were believed to be putting items in their purses. When they arrived, police discovered Knox had placed the following items in her purse: air fresheners, body sprays, body lotions, fragrance oils, electric fragrant diffusers and hand sanitizers (total value of $136.80) The second subject had nothing in her purse and was released. Knox’s court date is scheduled for Sept. 10.
