Retail Theft Arrest
Robert T. Straus, 24, of Mount Prospect was arrested Sunday, Oct 28, charged with felony retail theft. According to police, around 7 a.m. Straus removed one bottle of Dom Perignon and two bottles of Moet champagne, valued at $322.37, from the Mariano’s at 802 E. Northwest Highway. Police said Straus put the items into a blue bag and left through an Emergency Exit causing the alarm to sound. Employees chased Straus outside the building where he was later apprehended officers with the Arlington Heights Police Department in the Recreation Park lot, about two blocks from Mariano’s.
According to police, Straus may have been responsible for two prior Retail Thefts of champagne while exiting the Emergency Exit. The Mount Prospect man is scheduled to appear in court Monday, Nov. 5.
$200 Stolen from Starbucks
Just before 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 two men came up to the Starbucks counter and made multiple requests for change. After the scam employees at the Starbucks inside the Dominick’s at 325 E. Palatine Road, determined there was $200 missing from the register. The offenders are described to be in their mid to late 30s, one with hair braids.
Purse Stolen, More than $2,000 Fraudulent Charges Racked Up
Sometime between 9 a.m. 12:45 p.m. the unknown offender or offenders entered an unlocked and unattended back room at the Pet Supply Plus at 67 W. Golf Road and removed a gold wallet from the victim’s purse. The wallet contained approx. $4 cash, credit cards and papers. There was unauthorized use of the credit cards in Schaumburg totally around $2,300.
Failed Vehicle Burglary Attempt
Parked in the XSport Fitness parking lot at 960 W. Dundee Road, the window of a yellow VW Beetle was broken. Sometime between 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the unknown offender or offenders damaged the rear driver side window while trying to gain entry into the vehicle by pulling down the rear driver side window. Entry was not gained, damage is estimated at $400.
