Arlington Heights Man Batters, Holds Girlfriend Captive

Emanuel Bentley III of Arlington Heights allegedly forced his girlfriend to stay in a residence for three days through intimidation and physical assault.

An Arlington Heights man is charged with forcefully preventing his girlfriend from leaving a residence for days in unincorporated Arlington Heights, along with aggravated battery, according to a press release from the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

Emanuel Bentley III, 26, allegedly battered his 22-year girlfriend by strangling her, biting her arm, burning her wrist with a lit cigarette and stealing her phone, among other offenses.

The girlfriend called police on Monday, June 10 and told them she had been forced to stay in the residence in the 2300 block of Nichols Road in unincorporated Arlington Heights, for the three days prior, by Bentley.

The first offense occurred a few days before the women called police, according to the release, when Bentley reportedly punched her in the eye and face in the midst of an argument.

The woman told police when she tried to leave, Bentley then took her phone, pushed her and choked her so she was unable to breath at one point, the release stated.

When she tried to leave the residence again a couple days later, the release states Bentley then burned her right wrist with a lit cigarette and bit her arm.

The woman was finally able to free herself when she told Bentley she had to go to the store, but she instead went to the home of a relative and called police, the release stated.

Bond for Bentley was set at $100,000 on Wednesday at Rolling Meadows Courthouse, and as of Saturday morning, he remained in custody at Cook County Jail in lieu of posting bond.

Bentley's next court appearance is scheduled for July 5.
