Arlington Heights Blotter: $15,000 in Tires Stolen, Big Time Copper Caper

Unfounded Investigation

Multiple Arlington Heights Police officers responded to a reported suspicious incident at the Marathon Gas Station July 13 at 7:57 p.m. According to police, the incident turned out to be unfounded. 

Theft

A white ceramic border with flowers located around a residential home address plate was pried off at a home in the 700 block of Carlyle Ln. on July 13 sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. 

A key ring was taken from a victim in the 400 block of Yale Ave. on July 11 at 3 p.m. The victim reported she was removing the final tree from the flatbed of a truck when she put her keyring down. The keyring contained 15 residential keys and five for vehicles.  A woman who called herself Kristin, approached the victim to offer assistance and put down a cell phone on the flatbed. After she had left, the victim realized the keyring was gone. The possible suspect is described as a white female in her fifties, standing five feet eight inches tall, weighing 150 pounds with blond hair and green eyes. 

A white English bull dog valued at $3,200 was stolen from Happiness is Pets, 15 W. Golf Rd. on July 13 at 12:15 p.m. While an employee was assisting a female customer, she noticed a black female enter the back of the store and saw her place the animal in a black backpack. The suspect then left the store and walked toward Golf Rd. She is described as being five foot five inches tall and between 20 and 25 years of age and wearing black shorts and shoes, light pink ankle socks and a black baseball cap. 

Criminal Damage to Vehicle

A side mirror of a blue 2006 Honda Odyssey van was broken off and dangling from the wiring while parked in the Arlington Heights Memorial Library parking lot, 500 N. Dunton Ave. on July 12. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. The front and rear doors along with the front quarter panel also had been scratched by what police believe was a key. Damages are estimated at $500. 

Both doors, the hood and quarter panels of a blue 2-door 2007 Chrysler Crossfire were scratched with an unknown object in Mr. A's Restaurant parking lot, 1711 E. Central Rd. on July 14 between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. 

Criminal Damage to Property

The southeast corner of the Burlington Coat Factory building, 30 W. Rand Rd. was damaged by what police believe may have been a hammer sometime between July 11 at 6 p.m. and July 12 at 7 p.m. Thirteen hammer-sized holes and one large hole on a plaster wall measuring 18X8 inches were made. Damage estimates were not immediately available.

Vehicle Burglary

A Dell laptop computer stored in a backpack was taken out of an unlocked 1993 Buick Regal Gran Sport in the 500 block of S. Dwyer sometime between July 12 at 7:30 p.m. and July 13 at 5 a.m. The computer was valued at $300.

Theft

A total of 820 Hankook tires valued at $15,000 were stolen along with a 2005 Great Dane 53-foot trailer parked in a storage lot at 3311 N. Kennicott Ave. sometime between July 12 at 5:30 p.m. and July 13 at 5:45 p.m. The steering column of the tractor the trailer was connected to was damaged and wires were cut.

Burglary

More than $3,000 in various copper and other materials were stolen from a garage in an apartment complex in the 1100 block of E. Northwest Hwy. sometime between June 24 and July 13 at 5 p.m. The garage door was pried open, and the following items were removed: Carpeted speaker boxes, four rolls of 14-gauge spindle, six rolls of copper electrical wire, four rolls of solid copper electrical wire, ]eight-foot copper pipes, one bin of copper scraps, two five-gallon buckets of copper fittings, six rolls of HVAC copper, a 100-foot roll of heavy-duty copper wire, a Rigid pistol rodder, Rigid hand rodder, four bladder drain cleaners in-drain kits, and an Eagle depth finder. A Giant aluminum ladder of unknown value also was taken.
