Arlington Heights Police Blotter: Brick Through Picture Window, Pre-Teen Bike Thief

Criminal Damage to Property

A resident who lives in the 900 block of E. Shady Way called 911 on Aug. 9 at 12:39 a.m. to report a male and female yelling and the sound of glass breaking. Officers arrived and found a 3x5 picture window, and a 2x3 side window broken out in a vacant apartment. A large landscaping brick was found underneath the larger window frame.

A 14-16 inch scratch was made on a blue, 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser as it was parked in a residential driveway in the 1400 block of N. Belmont sometime between Aug. 8 at 3 p.m. and Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. The scratch was horizontal, and discovered on the rear passenger side door.  The victim told police that a number of tires on other vehicles parked in the area had been flattened, but no police reports had been made.

The fender and quarter panel of a yellow 2010 Chevy Camaro LS were scratched in the municipal parking garage, 35 S. Evergreen sometime between Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. and Aug. 11 at 1 a.m. The vehicle was parked on the south end of the garage, and damage estimates were not immediately available.

Theft

A girls purple Trek 24-inch bicycle ($100) was taken from in front of a residence in the 1100 block of N. Yale Ave. on Aug. 8 between noon and 1 p.m. The victim rode her bicycle to a friend’s house and left it unsecured before entering the home.

A gray and yellow Mongoose dirt/trick bike ($150) was taken from the front of a residence in the 4100 block of N. Yale on Aug. 8 at 5:32 p.m. The resident was in the backyard gardening when he observed an approximately 10-year-old subject riding away on the bike. When he ran to the front of the home, he didn't see the subject. He then got into the car and drove around the neighborhood, but was unable to locate the boy or the stolen bike. 

A blue boys BMX style Sapient bike ($100) with an 18-inch frame, and a girls 26-inch maroon and black Mongoose bike ($200) were taken from a driveway in the 1600 block of W. Canterbury on Aug. 8 between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Two specialized, skeleton screws and a license plate were taken off of a red, 2008 Harley Davidson XL in the 2200 block of E. George St.  on Aug. 8 between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Both screws resembled skeletons that had red eyes. Each of the screws were valued at $10.

Vehicle Burglary

A set of keys that were on a keychain with 20 others were taken from a gold 2000 Kia Rio while parked in the Arlington Park train depot, 2121 W. Northwest Hwy. on Aug. 9 between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The vehicle was not locked at the time of the incident.
