Elk Grove Theatre Presents “Stand By Me” August 12

The Elk Grove Theatre continues its second Tuesday of the month “Critic’s Classics Series” with “Stand By Me.” The movie will be presented in digital projection and sound at the Elk Grove Theatre, 1050 Arlington Heights Road in Elk Grove Village on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at 1 PM and 7 PM. Admission is $5 per person, and tickets are available in advance at the Elk Grove Theatre Box Office or online at www.classiccinemas.com. The series is co-sponsored by the Chicago Film Critics Association. David Fowlie will introduce both screenings. Q&A sessions will follow each film presentation.

“Stand By Me” is a 1986 coming-of-age-drama directed by Rob Reiner. The film tells the story of four boys who go on a hike across the countryside to find the missing body of a dead kid. The film is based on the novella “The Body” by Stephen King, and the title is derived from the song of same name. The movie stars Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell and Kiefer Sutherland and is narrated by Richard Dreyfuss.

The “Critics Classics Series” continues on September 9 with “Touch of Evil” and October 14 with “The Spy Who Loved Me.” “Touch of Evil” is a 1958 American crime thriller written, directed by and co-starring Orson Welles. The movie also stars Charlton Heston and Janet Leigh. “The Spy Who Loved Me” is a 1977 James Bond film about the hijacking of British and Russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads.
