WWII Veteran Robert 'Bob' Grey Holmes, 93, Arlington Heights

Robert "Bob" Grey Holmes, an Arlington Heights resident who passed away Jan. 5, served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific. A memorial service will be held Saturday.

Robert "Bob" Grey Holmes, 93, of Arlington Heights, and formerly of Palatine, passed away at his home on Jan. 5.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Presbyterian Church of Palatine, 800 E. Palatine Road, in Palatine. Interment will be private.

Bob was born on Oct. 10, 1920, in Mt. Lebanon, Penn., the son of the late Robert Alva and Sarah (nee Grey) Holmes.

Bob graduated in 1946 from Grove City College in Grove City, Penn. During his senior year, he was called to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific. Following his discharge from the service, Bob began his career in sales working for American Standard Corporation where he remained for forty years until the time of his retirement. Bob was also an avid member of the Anglers’ Club of Chicago and Trout Unlimited. 

Beloved husband of 66 years of Martha (nee Angloch) Holmes; loving father of  Jennifer Colver, Barbara (Gregory) Gobel and Nancy (David) Benjamin; grandfather of Christopher  Colver, Michelle (Colin) Shaw, Bradley Colver, Megan Gobel, Kathryn (Lucas) Buchler, Morgan Benjamin and Brooke Benjamin; great grandfather of Madeleine Colver.
