Candlelight vigil for victims of gun violence

Local activists will hold a candlelight vigil this Saturday evening to honor victims of gun violence and to express support for pending legislation.

Local activists will hold a candlelight vigil this Saturday evening to honor victims of gun violence and to express support for pending legislation that would require universal background checks for gun purchasers. The vigil will take place between 7:30 and 8:30 pm at Harmony Park in Arlington Heights, located at the corner of Vail Ave. and Campbell Street. The event is sponsored by the Northwest Suburbs and Lake-McHenry County chapters of Organizing for Action (OFA). Patrick Watson, one of the organizers of the event, said that the recent mass shootings in Wisconsin, Colorado, and Connecticut "demand that our elected officials, national and local, pass legislation that will require that those who exercise their legal right to own a firearm do so responsibly."
