Glueckert Funeral Homes' US Flag / Honor Banner Entry in the Memorial Day Parade Attracts 200+ Veterans and Families marching.

Glueckert Funeral Home sponsored the Honor Flag and Banner Entry in the 2014 Memorial Day Parade.

June 3, 2014, Arlington Heights, IL-
In their second year of what is planned to be an annual event, Glueckert Funeral Home sponsored an entry in the Memorial Day Parade in Arlington Heights on this past May 26. Jackie Glueckert, coordinator of the entry reported their very large and patriotic entry to be 200+ marchers who carried US flags and wore Honor Ribbon sashes to recognize particular veterans who were family or friends of large contingent of marchers. In addition to families and friends, several local organizations took part in the parade as part of the Glueckert entry including; several Hersey High School Activity Groups, Service Over Self, Girl’s Track and National Honor Society. Also, Rolling Meadows High School Interact Group, St. Viator High School, Thomas Middle School, Salute Inc., and Cub Scout Troop Pack 132 participated in honoring living and deceased Veterans and Active Duty Military Service members.

Each participant in the parade received a personalized Honor Ribbon Sash to wear and display the name of their honoree provided by Glueckert Funeral Home. They were able to bring their own US Flag or be provided with one. Once the parade portion concluded, volunteers lined the walkway with flags for the ceremony for a service at Arlington Heights Memorial Park, where a ceremony honoring Arlington Heights fallen heroes and our nation’s heroes who also paid the ultimate price for our freedom from the Civil War through to the Afghanistan theaters of action took place. The names of veterans who have passed away in the last year were read aloud. Arlington Heights has been honoring veterans on Memorial Day since the end of World War I.

Thousands of viewers lined the parade route from Sigwalt and Arlington Heights Road to Memorial Park. Participants were able to keep their flags and sashes or donate flags to Arlington Heights American Legion Post 208.

“The weather was wonderful and to see so many people turn out and march with us and line the parade route was really overwhelming and special. This is so meaningful to people who served and people who appreciate them for doing so”, said Jackie Glueckert. She added, “This is an amazing community that cares deeply about its patriotism and heritage. People were thanking all of our marchers throughout the entire parade route. We look forward to this continuing to grow in tradition every year. It involves some work by our staff and volunteers, but it’s worth every moment when you see how proud and grateful people are”.
