As more and more motorcyclists and scooters enter the
roadways, the probability of something going wrong increases as well. In
conjunction with Cabela’s of Hoffman Estates, the non profit group EMS Road
Docs Illinois has commissioned a steady and regular schedule of classes to help
those who are bystanders to a wreck. An unprecedented set schedule of every
first Saturday of every month has been unveiled.
Basic Accident Scene classes will have a regular shift for
students, every first Saturday of every month, thanks to the commitment brought
by Cabela’s in Hoffman Estates. “We
thought it would be great to have new riders, as well as car drivers, to make
it so there is a standard, across-the-board opportunity to change the direction
of collisions. No one should bleed out waiting for an ambulance. Nobody.” said
Dan Nolan, a member and instructor for the Road Docs.
The Road Docs offer Basic ASMI Courses, which teach students
how to assess a scene while making sure no others fall in harms way, no easy
task after a major collision. They also learn basic life-sustain actions needed
when on the scene of an accident. The Advanced courses teach a more-in-depth
approach like stabilizing, long boarding and environmental controls. Each student receives a Certification of
Achievement, class manual, training supplies and an ASMI patch to wear on their
vests.
