WildStang Robotics Team Sponsors VEX Robotics Event

The WildStang Robotics Team is sponsoring a VEX Robotics Regional event on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Rolling Meadows High School. The VEX robots measure 18”x18”x18”, much smaller than those created for the FIRST Robotics Competition. Thirty-two teams from Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin will pair off in the daylong event. Qualification matches start at 9 a.m. and continue until approximately 3 p.m. when the finals begin. Admission to the event is free.

The VEX game being played is called “Toss Up, ” where pairs of robots compete against each other on a 12’ x 12’ playing field. The game’s object is to attain a higher score than the opposing alliance by scoring the team’s color buckyballs and large weighted beach balls on a particular side of the playing field.

Students on the WildStang team built eight robots, competed against one another, and the top teams will participate in the regional event. Winners at the regional competition will qualify for the championship to be held in California in April.

Comprised of students from Prospect, Rolling Meadows, and Wheeling high schools, the Wildstang team meets at RMHS in an evening class during first semester to learn about engineering from adult mentors, prepare for second semester’s FIRST Robotics Competition, and build VEX robots. Its sponsors include the Motorola Solutions Foundation, Numerical Precision, Methode Electronics, Palatine Welding, Endres Machining, Just Manufacturing and Nu-Way Industries.
