Renz Easily Defeats GOP Challenge

Curt Renz, candidate for State Representative, has won versus a GOP objection to his candidacy. Electoral Board's decision means voters will have a real choice in 2012 election.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL -- July 4, 2012 -- Independence Day celebrations began a day early at the Curt Renz for State Representative campaign as the Cook County Electoral Board threw out Republican objector Maureen Falcon's objections against Renz (D-Arlington Heights) in a stinging rebuke during a July 3rd hearing.

"I don't know what's worse, that Republican operatives would file such an obviously frivolous case and waste so much taxpayer money or that the incumbent, Dave Harris, would allow his party to go so far with these baseless attacks against his fellow veteran," said Frank Marino, Renz campaign volunteer coordinator.

Renz is a Vietnam War veteran, authored a popular financial book and anchored a local financial TV news program for sixteen years. He was slated by local Democrats to run versus the incumbent Republican in May.

Falcon is a GOP precinct captain in State Rep. David Harris' district. State records show a copy of Renz' candidacy packet was originally requested by Kevin Artl, the political director for Minority Leader Tom Cross' House Republican Organization.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

During a preliminary June 19th records examination, county officials overruled the vast majority of Falcon's objections and determined that Renz filed well above the 500-minimum required signatures.

On July 3rd the Electoral Board also knocked down Falcon's claim that Renz did not file the proper slating notification. In reality, pages four and five of Renz' publicly-available candidacy packet included the slating documents Falcon claimed were missing.

Overall, volunteers for the Renz campaign devoted more than 30 hours re-visiting voters and re-confirming their registrations to defend the candidate against the Republican objections. Because of the county's schedule Renz supporters spent much of their Father's Day weekend and took time out of their workdays to help prepare for earlier hearings and reviews.

According to Renz volunteers, several of the voters whose identities were questioned by the GOP were angered and dismayed by the Republicans' unfounded objections.

The 53rd district covers portions of Arlington Heights, Mt. Prospect, Prospect Heights and Des Plaines.
