Paris Market Antiques Opening in Ice House Mall

The former owner of Tivoli Garden Antiques opens a new, larger store inside Barrington's Ice House Mall on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Customers shopping at Barrington's Ice House Mall over the past few weeks have been eager to get a closer look at its newest tenant, Paris Market Antiques, said Marie Straussner, mall marketing director.

"We're so excited. We've been getting phone calls for a while."

The wait is over, as the store is scheduled for a "soft opening" at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. An official grand opening ceremony with the Barrington Chamber of Commerce will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 27.

Store owner Wendy Winston previously owned Tivoli Garden Antiques on Main Street in Barrington for 10 years prior to closing in December to prepare for the move to a larger space at Ice House Mall.

The relocation, she said, "has turned out better than my vision."

"I'm so tired, but I'm pumped and the momentum is building."

The store's name is inspired by the markets of France and Belgium and features European-style decor in addition to antiques from the Victorian, Deco, Early American, English and Primitives eras; vintage clothing and jewelry; silver, crystal and china; and old prints and oil painting.

Some of the more unique antiques include a Lincoln-style bed from 1850s, a Sheridan Pembroke table from the 1800s, a French Parquet game table and a solid oak lion head table.

"I've always loved antiques," said Winston, who used to stage shows for malls as a marketing coordinator. She also became familiar with the workings of estate sales from her mother, who was a Chicago real estate broker. Finally, Winston's passion grew into her own business, where she enjoys being surrounded by art, beauty and history.

"I'm here more than I am at home," she said.
