Congresswoman Duckworth Applauds Calls for Bipartisanship and Solutions for Working Americans at the State of the Union

I applaud President Obamafor providing bipartisan solutions to our nation’s challenges and placing the focus on how we can create jobs and expand opportunities for working Americans. He is right in that we must invest in our economy by educating and retraining our workforce, improving our nation’s infrastructure, and helping small and medium sized businesses succeed. The recently approved Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project will create 65,000 jobs by 2040. This is the type of investment that can both create jobs and reduce the deficit in the long term. By supporting educational institutions like Elgin Community College and Harper College we can train workers for high paying technological and manufacturing jobs that the business owners in my district tell me they need to fill. I am  encouraged that President Obama will put forth jobs legislation that will empower working Americans.

Tonight, I was also pleased to see that there is a growing consensus on both sides of the aisle that we can come to common sense solutions on immigration reform and preventing gun violence. Most Americans respect 2nd amendment rights and also understand that we have a responsibility to protect our children by keeping the most dangerous weapons off our streets and out of the hands of criminals. On
immigration reform, we can secure our borders and make sure that immigrants now in the United States have a pathway to citizenship as long as they are willing
to wait their turn, pay a fine and any unpaid taxes, and pass a criminal background check before becoming citizens.

Now, it is time to use this moment to put partisanship aside and get to work for the American people.

I have no doubt President Obama is sincere in his support for bipartisan solutions. A great example is Obamacare -- he certainly reached across the aisle to find common ground on that.

What did I miss? Bipartisan? More spending, more taxation, same monopoly in public education? Sounds like the same positions he's embraced and enforced for four years. What he can't get through congress he sneaks in through executive order - not seeing any change in the Pres's partisan positions!

right? and then they always PROJECT their partisanship onto the GOP.

When a Democrat accuses somebody else of anything, you know that they are trying to hide the same behavior.

" He is right in that we must invest in..."

The new generation of Democrats has been taught to avoid using the word 'spend' and to use the word 'invest' instead. They target the low information voters and this little trick works great.

"The recently approved Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project will create 65,000 jobs by 2040"

HA! and i've got a bridge to sell you. This lady knows damned well that none of us who are voting now will be able to hold anybody accountable for some pie in the sky INVESTMENT scheme that will pay off in 2040.

"On immigration reform, we can secure our borders and..."

How about show that we can seal our borders and then we'll talk about the 'and' part? These people are like parrots. We hear the same garbage from them about immigration, but until they can seal the borders, we should not entertain any of their amnesty schemes.

And i don't know who actually types Duckworth's posts, but they end up looking like she typed them on a cell phone. Would it hurt to have someone proof these before you tell us how you want to spend more of our money?
