Check Your Cholesterol During Heart Month

Village of Arlington Heights offers a clinic next month to help residents take control of their cholesterol levels.

The Village of Arlington Heights is holding a Cholesterol Clinic in February to commemorate National Heart Awareness Month.

Screenings will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 in the Health Services at village hall, 33 S. Arlington Heights Road.

The cost is $20 and anyone taking the test must fast for 12 hours prior to your appointment. Medicare cannot be billed because the village is not an approved provider.

Call 847-368-5760 for more information or to make an appointment.

There are several national initiatives for “Heart Month” including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Million Hearts campaign that seeks to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by the end of 2016, according to the CDC website.

According to the site, one in every three deaths in the U.S. is due to heart disease or stroke.

The CDC site states the Million Hearts Campaign is focused on the “ABCS”:

Aspirin for people at risk

Blood pressure control

Cholesterol management

Smoking cessation
